Introduction

This is the third quarterly Report for ACFA project form January to April.

In this quarter, it is when our society seems weaken at the beginning due to lack of necessary support but finally survived with the support gotten from the society’s main supporters for spay neuter and educational activities and managed to carry out part of the planned activities of the this quarter though some problems such as shortage of drugs were encountered.

Activities carried

Ø    In this quarter due to the society’s management strong effort, Spay Neuter and Vaccination budget for more than 60 dogs which is a one month budget and regular fuel consumption cost has been provided from AMSALE GESSESSE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION USA for the overall activities and also for ACFA project, which was needed for Education, Spay Neuter and Administrative purposes.

Ø     ACFA project also managed to get budget for educational activities from Marchig Trust UK.

Ø    Awareness creation activity is carried out for more than 35,000 people in the project area during the entrance and exit hours of workers and students and also in crowded and targeted areas using the microphone fixed on the car and by distributing 2000 leaflets, 1000 brochures, 1000 stickers and 50 T-shirts.

Ø    In addition to the Administrative and fundraising activities, The project office is always open even in the weekends and holidays due to full dedication and kind understanding of the staffs and volunteers to give online counseling and also to deal with people coming to adopt dogs and to visit the shelter and the clinic using their holidays free time due to this 426 people were given service on online in this quarter.

Ø    Adoption of more than 58 puppies and adult dogs by saving from being thrown to hyena, deep water and garbage and dogs that are found while doing our regular patrol that are abandoned due to the transfer of their owner to other places due to different social and work reasons.

Ø      27 dogs were spayed and neutered.

Ø     3 euthanize due to the sever accident caused on them by the use of the drug gotten from the Donkey Sanctuary, in Debre Zeit.

Ø     The project is also managed to be visited by one of the private media.

Ø          Maintenance and improvement of the existing shelter is also been carried out.

Ø        Facilitation of the necessary pre conditions for our supporter organization coming from USA to visit the ACFA project and the condition of Homeless Animals of Ethiopia and the wildlife in order to decide how they can help in the future by doing so we managed to contact the concerned government higher officials and get supportive letters and good ideas for the successfulness of their visit.

Ø   Mrs. Katrina Morrison and Dave Price Two Australian citizen supporters who visited our project last year also came for  the second time in this quarter and served a three days voluntary service with the usual volunteer clinical year students of Addis Ababa University and also contributed their usual donation both in kind and in cash to support the activity of the project.

Problems

There are problems of animals all over the world though the degree differs from one part of the world to the other, from developed nations to developing nations, deliberately or due to lack of awareness, and our society believes that those animals in a sever problem should be given priority to get them out of the problem as it has great importance in all aspects.

That is why the society’s founders and the project staffs works day and night to capture dogs for spay neuter and handle emergency cases with out any hesitation and with no insurance for the risk that might happen on their life.

Even if our effort made animal welfare to be accepted in our country and practically seen and believed nationally and internationally, the society could not get the necessary support it should get for the successfulness of its dream and for ACFA project which the society get in to an obligation by signing operational agreement with the government due to the sabotage done by few people happened in the Bale Mountains because of the argument between our society HAPS and themselves due to their proposal of dog shooting by the name of saving the Endangered Ethiopian Wolf, which finally never saved the Wolf.

In addition even for the society to work with the capacity it has currently, shortage of necessary drugs and rabies vaccine in the local market became an obstacle.

Conclusion

Our unbelievable effort, by withstanding all burdens posed on the founders and members devotedly worked very hard to bring a better situation for the animals of our country, we could not even manage to work the planned project according to the time schedule due to the above mentioned problems.

Finally we would like to thank those individuals and organizations that stood beside our society in providing all round support for its activity for the animals and would like to request again to be with us for the continuation of this blessing idea to be realized for the sake of the needy animals.

Signed
