Introduction
This is the second quarterly report for ACFA
project; implemented by HAPS Ethiopia please browse
www.haps-eth.org.et
which holds all the exiting activities
done for the animals with full dedication and interest in the past year
2006 for general background.
Activities carried out
In this quarter the
ACFA project is being visited by the concerned government officials
and by Addis Ababa Mass Media Agency and Ethiopian News Agency
which is a very important forward step for the society.
The Medias visit was
also followed by wider and repeated media coverage for the general
public.
The Ethiopian
National Television, The Addis Ababa Mass Media Agency Television
and different Radio channels broadcasted the
news the same day.
Again the Addis
Ababa Mass Media Agency Television
broadcasted the
interviews of HAPS president; concerned government higher officials
while their visit to the project activity and other HAPS volunteers
as a documentary film for four consecutive days having a relatively longer
duration.
With this we managed
to get millions of audience in addition to the car advertisement and found
many people confirming that “this is the organization watched by TV
programs” whenever they see us with HAPS car.
The project activity
is also visited and being recorded by two different international Medias
such as Associated Press here in Addis Ababa and the On
Point Radio from Boston, Massachusetts.
Besides, awareness
creation by on line and direct contact counseling in person 335 people who
seek information about what to do with their pets when they get sick and
about the stray dogs they came across in their neighborhood.
They were also been
given advises to take their pets to their nearby animal clinic for further
treatment while HAPS handled the cases of stray dogs in the project area.
Awareness raising is
also been carried out to the general public in areas and occasions where
many people found such as school entrance and exit time and in youth and
children entertainment areas. This is done for about 19,500 people.
The volunteer
clinical year students of Addis Ababa University and all the staffs
were participated in spay neuter and Educational campaign carried out in
this particular quarter.
A total of 53 dogs
saved by HAPS out of these 27 dogs were spayed, neutered and
vaccinated the rest 24 were puppies and 2 adult dogs were euthanized due
to the severity of the accident caused on them.
Then finally:

Adopted
§
20
Released to the area where they were caught
§
6
puppies and 2 adult dogs found in the shelter at the moment
Problems
encountered
Even though our strong effort prepared a better
precondition for the implementation of animal welfare in our country; the
project has faced a shortage of fund to carry out educational and
administrative activities which are very important to implement the
project; the expenses of all the activities were covered by borrowing from
the spay neuter budget which were donated by Royal Society for the
prevention of Cruelty to Animals /RSPCA/UK,
by the end of the year
2005
hoping
those who promise may give for the rest of the activities.
In this quarter we
couldn’t work according to the plan because of luck of Administrative,
Educational and some other additional spay neuter costs of the project.
We are worried this
activity for the animals might be stuck due to luck of finance to run the
activity though the concerned government officials showed a willingness to
stand beside in facilitating technical and infrastructure facilities.
Conclusion
If the problems
faced the project get solved we believe with continuing effort of HAPS
and its donors, this project which has an all round importance for the
animals, community and the country as a whole will fulfill its objective
of animal welfare.
